Custom Strap for Glashütte Original Navigator – I’m happy to share our completed strap slideshow for my good customer Michael’s Glashütte Original Senator Navigator Perpetual Calendar. This is a beautiful beast, at 44mm, although not nearly as large as the IWC Big Pilot. Michael, while not in Europe, was having the watch serviced in Austria and delivered to a friend in Starnberg, Germany, which is just around the corner from my Werkstatt, and so was able to have it delivered to me so that I can build his strap with an ideal fitment. And it’s a good thing because while all my online investigation indicated that this watch features a 20mm lug width, in actuality, the lug with tapers from 19.7mm at the top of the lugs to 19.3mm at the lug tips. had I built this strap with a uniform 20mm lug width, it wouldn’t have fit correctly.
The material that Michael chose was Incas Mahogany from our ‘Outback’ Kangaroo leather collection. This leather is vegetable-tanned with a hand rubbed finish that will develop a beautiful patina with wear. Made with our Fully Integrated Fit (FIF), this upgrade features our ‘Thick Curved Lug System’ (TCLS) for an integrated fit between the lugs, the strap is then notched to the full width of the lugs, after which it tapers to the customer’s buckle/clasp of choice. In this case our premium Double Butterfly button deployant clasp with brushed finish. Stitched with our Ecru French-mill linen and lined with our wonderfully soft and durable Motorcycle Black Kangaroo Gloving Leather, this strap offers all the vintage character of a vintage leather pilot’s strap but with a wonderfully customized fitment this unmistakably despoke!
