A Strap Worthy of a Legend

Navy SuperMatte Teju Lizard Strap for Sören’s TAG Heuer Monaco Gulf – When our great customer Sören approached us to craft a strap for his TAG Heuer Monaco Gulf Edition, we knew the design needed to reflect the bold legacy of this iconic motorsport timepiece. The Monaco Gulf, with its unmistakable square case and signature racing stripes, is a watch that demands attention—and it deserves a strap that can meet it head-on in both presence and performance.

For this build, we selected our exclusive Navy SuperMatte Teju Lizard, which offers a perfect balance of sportiness and luxury. This exotic leather features a rich, deep navy tone and a beautifully textured surface that plays with light in subtle and dynamic ways.

To ensure the watch and strap are a seamless extension of each other, we integrated our Fully Integrated Fit (FIF), paired here with our exclusive Thick Straight Lug System (TSLS). This combo gives the strap a sculpted fit between the lugs, echoing the squared-off profile of the Monaco case and eliminating the unsightly gaps found with standard-fit straps. The strap is notched at the lugs to the full 22mm width, then tapers gracefully back to 18mm to accommodate the OEM Heuer deployant clasp.

Color-Matched Stitching That Ties It All Together

One of the standout details on this strap is the hand saddle stitching, executed in a bold double row using custom-dyed French-milled linen thread in vivid Gulf Blue and Orange. These colors were carefully matched to the Gulf racing stripes on the Monaco dial, offering a visual thread—literally—between the strap and the watch.

Comfort and Durability with Dual-Color Kangaroo Lining

Turning the strap over reveals a final detail we’re particularly proud of: the lining made from our premium Nappa Kangaroo leather, here in alternating Orange and Bavarian Blue. Not only is this material exceptionally soft and breathable, but it’s also one of the most durable leathers we offer. As a delightful surprise, we found that the Bavarian Blue is an exact match to the lighter blue stripe on the dial—a detail that ties the entire strap and watch together with precision and flair.

The Right Proportions for a Blocky Icon

While the Monaco design hails from the late 1960s, its boxy, architectural case feels unapologetically modern and benefits from a strap that has the presence to match. The OEM strap’s taper from 22mm to 18mm can sometimes leave the watch feeling top-heavy. By reinforcing this taper with our TSLS and choosing a more robust material and build, we’ve created a strap that brings visual balance and tactile heft—making the Monaco wear as boldly as it looks.

The First of Many?
