The Breitling Chronomatic Ref. 1808 is a remarkable example of 1970s watch design. Featuring the pioneering Breitling Caliber 12 automatic chronograph movement—one of the first automatic chronograph movements ever developed—this watch represents a significant milestone in horological innovation. The Ref. 1808 is distinguished by its bold 48mm stainless steel case, a striking black dial with contrasting white sub-dials, and a rotating slide-ruler bezel, making it a true statement piece on the wrist.
One-Owner Watch in Outstanding Condition
This particular Breitling Chronomatic Ref. 1808 was originally purchased by my wife’s stepfather and has remained in his possession ever since. Now, after decades of careful ownership, this timepiece is being offered for sale. It has recently undergone a complete professional service, ensuring that it is in top working order. Remarkably, the watch remains in outstanding original condition, retaining all of its authentic components, including its original stainless steel bracelet. The original plexiglass crystal does have some scratches as would be expected for a 50-year-old watch, adding to its vintage charm. However, the crystal has been professionally polished and the sale will include a NOS unsued original Breilting plexiglass crystal, should you choose to replace it in future. Please note that this vintage watch does not include the original box and papers.
